I am an Animal Behaviourist, Trainer and Enrichment Expert. I have extensively studied animal behaviour, welfare and training and continue my professional development with independent studies and research. I am currently studying marine animals and oceanography preparing for a volunteer trip later this year.
I have kept all the animals I write about at one time or another in my life. So, I am writing from personal experience and sharing the knowledge and expertise that I have gained over my lifetime.
This knowledge is supplemented by hands on animal keepers and experts in their fields whom I am privileged to work with at ZSEA and who also share their insight and knowledge with me so that I can give you as much information as I can to help you enjoy your life with your pets.
Please note that I am not a veterinarian, so you should consult your vet for any medical advice or concerns you have with your pets.
My family has been animal owners, breeders and keepers for over 200 years. Everything from selling pekingeses on Petticoat Lane to breeding rare parrots and aiding worldwide conservation projects.
We are also award winning rare breed cattle owners and maintain a small herd on our farm in Norfolk with our rescue shetland ponies and other livestock.
I used to show my horse and was even a member of the British Equestrian Vaulting club with my daughter. That’s gymnastics on horseback if you don’t know what it is. We won as individuals and as a team, my daughter now trains with England’s top coach and competes for Cambridge.
I love the countryside, long walks and fresh air.
In the late summer of 2016 I suffered brain damage from neck injuries from horseriding. This turned my world upside down and I had to stop my behaviour consultation business and change my whole business to focus on only my pet enrichment business – Ruffle Snuffle®. My business designs and hand makes in the UK enrichment products for pets. I’ve won many awards from people like Dragon Den’s Theo Paphitis, to global business woman Jacqueline Gold and am very proud of what I have achieved.
Thanks to the help and support of family and friends I have recovered remarkably well and enjoy my gift of life. That’s why there is a section on the blog called ‘Your Life’ because you are important too and need to be kind and take care of yourself.
I love photography. It’s a passion I had many years ago and rediscovered after the accident. Where possible the photos on this website are taken by me. I’ve also had my photographs accepted by Adobe and Alamy and are for sale online in their stock libraries. I also contribute my photography free to conservation projects around the World.
I love writing and teaching. You might find me in a field somewhere with a cup of tea and my laptop busy tapping away in the peace and quiet penning my latest article.
I’ve even started publishing a series of eBooks about training and animal care which you can buy and download from my shop here. Or here on Amazon.
My work has been featured in international, national and local media over the last 30 years. I’ve worked with top brands and people like: RSPCA, Battersea Dogs & Cats Home, Victoria Stilwell, Dog Buddy, Forthglade, Lily’s Kitchen and TV shows like Vet on the Hill and Paul O’Grady’s For the Love of Dogs. I have been ranked several years running as one of the Top 10 Pet Blogs in the UK by Vuelio.
